Heal My Daughter!
Just then a man named Jairus came. He was a leader of the synagogue. He fell down at Jesus' feet and pleaded with Him to come to His house, because he had an only daughter about 12 years old, and she was at death's door. Luke 8:41,42
Jairus probably knew Jesus as He had preached in the synagogues in the area. I wonder how he had treated Jesus, had he scoffed or did Jesus impact on him in some way, challenge his faith? Jesus would have recognised him. I wonder how humiliating it was for Jairus to kneel before Jesus, in front of all his congregation and admit His lordship over sickness and disease?
What made God single out Jairus for the miracle he was about to witness? What restraint he would have needed knowing his daughter was at death's door and now there was a crowd making it difficult for Jesus to move along the road. I know if it was me and my daughter was dying I would have been very impatient with the people, but we don't see this here.
I remember a time when my daughter was around 7 or 8 and my daughter started limping for no aparent reason. It got to a point when the treatment was causing my daughter severe pain, I called a halt and insisted on tests. It was found that she had a rare disease called Perthes disease. This is a disease that stops blood flow to the top of the femur and the bone starts to die. We had to wait 6 weeks over the Christmas break to see a specialist, this was the most trying time indeed. Again, probably about 12-18 months later there were two growths found in her tibia and fibula, another wait to see he specialist. I was forced to faith. The growths were benign but to see them on X-Ray was the most horrifying experience.
I can relate. The interesting thing was Jesus was still going to Jairus' house even though another stood in the way and the crowd pronounced the daughter dead, Jesus was still going. If Jesus is still doing something then what He is doing is greater than the report of man.
Today my Chinese paraplanner came to work distraught that a growth was found on her neck, around the thyroid. I prayed for her, rebuking the lump and commanded healing. She had no faith, but I know my God, He is good!
