Not My Way
When the days were coming to a close for Him to be taken up, He determined to journey to Jerusalem. He sent messengers ahead of Him, and on the way they entered a Samaritan village to make preparation for Him. But they did not welcome Him because He determined to journey to Jerusalem.
When the disciplines James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?"
But He turned and rebuked them, and they went to another village. Luke 9:51-55
The Samaritins worshipped at Mount Gerizim instead of Jerusalem and perhaps they took offense that He wanted to not share this with them.
John and James were know for their fiery tempers, they were nick named 'sons of thunder!' I wonder if they were red heads?
This passage comes after Jesus has rebuked the disciples for arguing about who was the greatest and also wanting to rebuke a man who was casting out demons in Jesus' name but not being one of heir pack. They were on a journey, learning attitudes of the heart, grace and mercy. What a challenge!
Jesus was teaching His disciples how to walk as He walked, in the Spirit. As I fellowship the Holy Spirit and yield to His love I am calmed and less likely to lash out. Alway good!
