Hot Heads
"And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? As you go with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer put you in prison. I tell you, you will never get out till you have paid the very last copper." Luke 12:57-59
Having a hot head causes us to rush into self- justification, self- righteousness and self-preservation. We may attempt o preserve our image now but by overstepping the mark we are made foolish. The righteous indignation does not equate to righteousness under the law. Laws are cold and clinical and not emotive, it is us who are emotive. Being rash is tied to emotional turmoil and leads us to destruction.
Humility is the path to righteousness, always. We can humble ourselves or be humbled by God. Humbling ourselves is less painful than being humbled.
Acting rashly hurts our family and friends, they will have to do without us, whilst we pay for our arrogance and rash behaviour. Put out the fire before it burns down your life. Amen!
