Salty?
Salt is good, but if salt has lost its strength and has become saltless (insipid, flat) how shall its saltiness be restored? It is fit neither for the land or the manure heap, men throw it away. He who has ears to hear, let him listen and consider and comprehend by listening. Luke 14:34,35
Jesus is talking about us, those who say we believe. Perhaps Judas should have listened to this. He was there but did not heed the warning. Why do you think that was? He probably thought more of himself and his own ability than he should. Remember Peter fell into that trap but came back, Judas didn't.
The preceding lessons tell us how we slip. Our priorities become other than Christ. Our family, our business, our pleasure all become more important than Christ, we become dull of hearing and gradually lose our saltiness, our flavour.
How do we stay salty? Jesus told us the key: abide in Him. As I abide, I am saturated with His ways, His presence, His purposes, His thoughts, His agenda. I love the weekend, it is time to me to spend time with the One who loves me, more so than during the week. Ah! Abiding is like sitting in a cool stream on a hot day, enjoying the refreshing water and not in a hurry to go anywhere. I am learning His agenda, it is really not that busy, it is peaceful and restful even when I am working. Does that make sense?
Abiding is heart, mind, soul, spirit and it filters to the body. If I have an attitude of rest, I am physically at peace. Amen!
