What is the kingdom of God like?

He said therefore, "What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his garden; and it grew and became a tree, and he birds of the air made nests in its branches." Luke 13:18,19

The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed. Now, I don't know about you but I imagine the kingdom of God as a place of might and power and able to do anything. Yet here, Jesus compares it to a humble seed. How great is a kingdom that can identify with a lowly seed? What security is this?

The next thing we see is the man plants it, in his garden. Ok, the man takes it and plants it, in his own garden. What is my garden? The place where I do life, it is malleable, moveable, dynamic and alive.

How do I sow the seed? Could I suggest I sow it with the words of my mouth? I sow either life or death. However, the inference here is a life-giving exercise.

The seed grows and produces a tree in which the birds of the air can dwell. This is the purpose, to build a structure in which many can dwell.

The last two days saw me camping in a caravan site in which there were many large trees. In the evening thousands of cocateel birds came in to roost. What a raucous bunch! Screeching, laughing, chatting all at once. I apologise to my fellow ladies but it sounded like a ladies conference when women all talk at once. The birds would, as one, take off to another tree and sit there chatting and move on. It was as if they were rotating to each other's home to see which was best. Last night I awoke at 1:57 and they were still chatting, it was an all night affair.

Now, if I am a sower of the seed in my garden and if the seed I sow is kingdom seed then it will produce a tree in which many can come and rest. It is important that I sow and that I sow good seed but also that it comes to maturity.

How I speak and the atmosphere I carry, if it is peace, then I spread peace wherever I go. Peace is received well. Try it!
