You Are Invited
But Jesus said, "A man was giving a great supper and invited many;
And at the hour for the supper he sent his servants to say to those who had been invited, 'Come, for all is now ready.' But they all alike began to make excuses and to beg off. The first said, 'I have bought a piece of land, and I have to go out and see it; I beg you to have me excused.'
And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to examine and put my approval on them; I beg to be excused.'
And another said, 'I have married a wife, and because of this I am unable to come.'
So the servant came and reported these answers to his master. Then the master of the house said in wrath to his servants, ' Go quickly into the great streets and small streets of the city and bring in here the poor and the disabled and the blind and the lame.'
And the servant returning said, 'Sir, what you have commanded me to do has been done, and yet there is room. Then the master said to the servant, 'go into the highways and hedges and urge and constrain to yield and come in, so that my house may be filled. For I tell you, not one of those who were invited shall taste my supper.' Luke 14:16-24
This story is about the kingdom of God. Many whom have been invited have chosen rather to follow their own passions and turn away from a relationship with their God. I can relate to this. So many have I invited into a friendship and so many have chosen instead their own way. I know I am a good friend but many do not want to know. I find that those who do want me as a friend are the ones these others would not choose as a friend either: the old, the foreigner, the youth and the broken. Now I am not the living God, how much greater is their loss.
Nothing is more important than knowing the lover of your soul, taking time to know Him, enjoying His presence. He is beautiful to behold, to dwell with, to fellowship with. He is more important than the latest fad, movie, dress, shoes, meal. He is the great I AM! He has treasures unknown which He delights to shower on those who call Him friend.
A relationship with the Lord is not difficult, it is freeing. He is good! Those who fully embrace Him are blessed now and in eternity. As I relax in Him, He shows me great and mighty things. He delights to show me His surprises, He has a sense of fun and wonder, I lose nothing and gain everything with Him. Amen!
