A Time to Prayer

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called the amount of Olives, which is near Jerusalem- Sabbath's day journey away. When they arrived, they went to the rooms upstairs where they were staying:
Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. All these were continually united in prayer, along with the women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and His brothers. Acts 1:12-14

As I read the last verse my insides went "ah! Here at last!" I am referring to Jesus' family. How satisfying it would be to know they were finally of one accord with Him. Many of us know what it like to have family members shun us, avoid us, disagree with us and oppose us. Not every story is a good one. Jesus actually told His disciples that some who disown them will think they are doing right.

I find it interesting that Luke tells Theophilus, the man he is writing to, about a 'Sabath day's journey.' This man would need to have a knowledge of that distance, or at least an interest in it. The text assume that he knows.

Jesu had told His disciples to stay and pray in Jerusalem and this is precisely what the are doing. Prayer is a precursor to a move or outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Amen! Good stuff!
