Giving All
Looking up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury. And He saw a poor widow putting in two mites. And He said, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; for they gave out of their abundance; but. She has contributed out of her lack and her want, putting in all she had on which to live."Luke 21:1-3
What is Jesus saying here? Is the tithe that most put in of no consequence? No! He is not saying that. He is recognising the sacrifice of the widow woman. The one who gives when they have nothing, because they want to honour the Lord, God sees that one and is ready to bless. The widow may not have received much in this lifetime but she is remembered and spoken about forever.
The sacrifices we make in secret is recognised by God for all eternity. It is He who shouts out praises. To recognised by God is more important than all the accolades of mankind. Mankind is fickle. We can be in favour one day and out the next. But wit God, He is steadfast and true.
Even to the rich there is a giving that hurts, that giving is ordained by God and draws out the spirit and calls to faith. There are rich godly men and women who's hearts the Lord owns, Jesus is not putting down the rich, merely honouring the poor woman's faith. Amen!
