If Only You Would Believe!
When daylight came, the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the scribes, convened and brought Him before their Sanhedrin. They said, "If You are the Messiah, tell us."
But He said to them, "If I do tell you, you will not believe. And if I ask you, you will not answer. But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the Power of God."
They asked Him, "Are You, then, the Son of God?"
And He said to them, "You say that I am."
"Why do we need any more testimony, " they said, "since we have heard it ourselves from His mouth." Luke 22:66-71
Isn't it sad that the truth Jesus spoke was rejected by the very ones He came to save. These leaders, of all people, should have been searching the scriptures, looking for truth. If this man was the Son of God, how blessed were they. Yet, instead, their flesh ruled and they were affronted by Him, His popularity with the people, the freedom He walked in, His peace.
What new thing is God wanting to bring to us? Are we willing to embrace the new, or are we insisting it comes the way we say it should?
I experience this, in my own small way, when I try to bring a loving, fun filled freedom into the lives of those who I do life with. I still have those who openly oppose me and teach their children that I am crazy and not good to be around. Mm someone is missing out.
The Pharisees were missing out on eternal life. Now, that is sad! Eternity is forever and to be without Jesus, forever would be awful.
