Resurrection Life
Also there came to Him some Saducees, those saying there was no resurrection. And they asked Him a question, saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies, leaving a wife and no children, the man must take the woman and raise up offspring for his brother. Now there are seven brothers, the first took a wife and died without children, and the second and the third took her, and in like manner all seven, and they died leaving no children. Last of all the woman dies also. Now in the resurrection whose wife will the woman be? For the seven married her."
And Jesus said, "The people of the world and present age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worthy to gain that other world and that future age and to attain the resurrection neither marry nor are given in marriage. For they cannot die again, but they are like angels and equal to Angels. And being sons and sharers in the resurrection, they are sons of God. Luke 20:27-36
The rascal in me sees the verse: 'for they can never die again.' You could read the scripture as needing death after being married. In fact you do need to die, daily, to self.
Jesus did not reprove the Saducees. I wonder if they were being smart, like the Pharisees, or genuinely inquisitive. We all have ideas on what heaven may be like and often we need to get those ideas out and speak about them because often they are wrong and tied up in our own limited experience.
Jesus tells us what we will be like in eternity, like the angels. Elsewhere we are told we suffer no sickness or disease there, we are born again, again.
To worry that you will not be married to your mate in heaven is futile, you both will be with the lover of your soul and married to Him, I know that takes some understanding, but there will not be life there as we now know it. He is good and worthy of trust. Amen!
