The Meal
Then came the day of a unleavened bread on which the Paaover Lamb had to be slain. So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare for the Passover meal, that we may eat it."
They said to Him, "Where do You want us to prepare?"
He said to them, "Behold, when you have gone into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you, follow him into the house which he enters. And say to the master of the house, 'The teacher asks you, 'where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover meal with My disciples?' And he will show you a large room upstairs, furnished, there make your preparations."
They went and found it just as He had said to them, and they made ready the Passover supper.. Luke 22:7-13
This was the day Jesus was to be betrayed, on the day they ate the Passover meal Jesus, the lamb of God was to be betrayed. The new lamb was to replace the old. The power in the new still pulses today. I am grateful there is no more slaughter of lambs for a ceremony that was full of holes.
Jesus is the perfect sacrifice, He willingly lay down His life and in so doing redeemed us, bought us back from the master of sin. Praise Him!
What I find interesting is: this was the third Passover the disciples had shared with Jesus and they did not go assuming they would chose the best place for the feast. They asked, "Where do you want us to prepare the feast?" In so doing they had a miracle. They experienced the wonder of God. They did meet the man, when it is most unusual for men to carry water, this is a woman's role. There was a divine choice in the place. This probably brought blessing to the family in the house. The Son of God spent His last meal in their house.
I wonder if the woman of the house also prepared the meal for them. As a woman I know how honoured I would have been to do this.
I am challenged to always include the Lord in the choice of where and how I deal with a task, a miracle might be waiting for me. Amen!
