What Causes us to Sin?

The festival of unleavened bread, which is called the Passover, was drawing near. The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a way to put Him to death, because they were afraid of the people.
Then Satan entered Judas' heart, who was numbered among the twelve. He went away and discussed with the chief priests and temple police how he could hand him over to them. They were glad and agreed to give him silver. So he accepted the offer and started looking for a good opportunity to betray Him to them when the crowd was not present. Luke 22:1-6

Why did the scribes and Pharisees fear the people? Remember the entrance to Jerusalem; Jesus came riding a donkey and the crowd were waving palms and laying down their cloaks for Him to ride over. The people thought their King had arrived.

What made a man who had been chosen to be a disciple, a man who had spent three years close to Jesus, a man who had preached the word and healed the sick want to betray his Lord? Judas had a part of his life that he failed to yield, hidden sin. Now the sin was a doorway to Satan to enter in and manipulate him to betray his Lord. We gather his problem related to money as he was willing to betray for money, he had been given charge of the purse and other gospels say he stole from the purse and Jesus did not confront him about his sin.

The parts we fail to yield are the parts Satan uses for his own ends. Be warned, you will be used to destroy in the area of your sin. You might think no one knows and it is hidden, but your enemy knows and he is waiting for you to be in place to destroy a marriage, a family, a friendship, an industry.

Today in Australia, one of our politicians had owned a profitable nickel mine and this politician bled the company for money to fund his political campaign. The company is now insolvent, many are losing jobs and this man says he had done nothing wrong. His sin has deceived him and he does not know how foolish he looks.

We will look foolish when we are used, just like this man is being used.
