A Bad Experience

The Jews incited the prominent women, who worshipped God, and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expelled them from their district. But they shook the dust off their feet against them and went to Iconium. And the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit. Acts 13:50, 51

I am impressed that the 'prominent women,' get a mention. I wonder what these women did? One commentary says the women were not Jewish but rather Gentile and married to the prominent men. Elsewhere in Acts we see such women mentioned who become believers. I wonder what the Jews said to incite the women to stand against Paul and Barnabas?

Hateful people say lies as it is a part of the package they buy when they allow jealousy, hate, anger, resentment into their lives. The spirits of darkness do not know truth.

At times we are victims of such jealousy and hate just by being passionate about people and the kingdom of God.

The apostles had applied a principle that Jesus taught: shake off the dust from that town and move on. I think shaking off the dust is a part of shaking off the barbs and lies and not allowing them to fester and dig in. We cannot allow ourselves to be wounded by hateful spirits driving foolish people. Amen!
