Stubborn People

"You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are always resisting the Holy Spirit; as your ancestors did, so do you. Which of the prophets did your father's not persecute? They even killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you now have become. You received he law under the direction of angels and yet not kept it."
When they heard these things, they were enraged in their hearts and gashed their teeth at him. But Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven. He saw God's glory, with Jesus standing at the right hand of God, and he said, "Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!" Acts 7:51-56

These people did not want to hear the truth. They were interested in maintaining their existence, keeping things as they were. Stephen was challenging their wicked hearts and they did not like it. They were so angry that they gnashed their teeth at him wanted to destroy his witness. This is a pretty awful image.

We cannot allow our lives to be so controlled by maintaining the status quo. These people liked things as they were and Stephen was challenging them. Bring the fresh wind Lord! Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
