The Evangelist

So those who were scattered went on their way preaching the message of the good news. Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah to them. The crowd paid attention with one mind to what Philip said, as they heard and saw the signs he was performing. For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed, and many who were paralysed were healed. So there was great joy in the city. Acts 8:4-8

He is a servant of food preaching the gospel. Philip was one of those chosen to be a deacon back in chapter 6, as was Stephen, who we have just seen preach to the Sanhedrin.

Philip was performing the acts of an evangelist. I wonder if the city he went to was the city Jesus had ministered? The people were very open, it was as if the message Philip had went into fertile soil.

Philip was dealing with old biases against the Samaratins. As we remember Jews despised Samaratins but here was a Jew ministering to the Samaritans. The good news was for all men, not just Jews.

Nowadays we see evangelists travelling all over the world. Yet we also need to be mindful of the places we live, mother are full of lost people as well. The world is experiencing an awakening and the west is turning to a God in prayer. I am watching the Azusa Now happening in LA and rejoice. In my own city people are turning to prayer, God is moving. Amen!
