The Traveller

An angel of the aloud spoke to Phillip: "Get up and go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." So he got up and went. There was an Ethiopian man, a eunuch and high official of Candice, queen of the Ethopians, who was in charge of the entire treasury. He had come to worship in Jerusalem and was sitting in his chariot on his way home, reading the prophet Isaiah aloud.
The Spirit told Philip, "Go and join that chariot."
When Philip ran to it, he heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?"
"How can I," he said, "unless someone guides me?" So he invited Philip to come and sit with him. Now the Scripture passage he was reading was this:
'He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb is silent before its shearer, so He does not open His mouth. In His humiliation justice was denied Him. Who will describe His generation? For His life is taken from the earth.'
The eunuch replied to Philip, "I ask you, who is the prophet saying this about- himself or another person?" So Philip proceeded to tell him he good news about Jesus, beginning from that Scripture. Acts 8:26-35

The Lord had a man in Ethiopia who had a heart for Him, He brought him to Jerusalem, he did not hear the good news there as persecution had begun against the disciples. However the Holy Spirit has a man placed where He needs him, in Samaria. The Angels must have been having fun, being a part of the new gospel, delivering messages. Philip obeys and goes.

He hears the eunuch reading the Scrilture from Isaiah that speaks about Jesus, but he did not know it was Jesus. I wonder if he had heard about the unrest in Jerusalem, that caused by the followers of this man Jesus? God had made this man hungry for the truth, he was ripe and ready for picking.

We do not know who the Lord is ministering to, as we go about our lives. They could be on the bus, on the train, sitting on a bench, walking down the street. If we are tuned into the Holy Spirit we will find them. We have the good news. The news about freedom. Let's share it! Amen!

This man goes on to receive the good news and be baptised and then the Holy Spirit whisks Philip away. Now the good news will travel to Ethiopia. Where will the good news travel, if you share it?
