A Complete Experience
While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions and came to Ephesus. He found some disciples and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?"
"No," they told him, "we haven't even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." "Then what baptism were you baptised with?" He asked them.
"With John's baptism," they replied. Paul said, "John baptised with a baptism of repentance, telling people that they should believe in the One who would be coming after him, that is, Jesus."
When they heard this, they were banished in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands on them, they began to speak in other languages and to prophesy. Now there were about 12 in all. Acts19:1-7
Apollos had just been in Ephesus and prior to him meeting Aquila and Priscilla, he preached the baptism of John. We are not told as to whether he was baptised in the Spirit but we are told he was converted to the full understanding of Jesus being saviour. I wonder if these men had been preached to by Apollos?
Paul, we see, was looking to bring all believers into a complete experience in God, that being baptism into Jesus and baptism in the Holy Spirit.
What stops us from a complete experience? Lack of knowledge or understanding, ignorance or unbelief. A hungry heart receives all God has for them, without fear. There is nothing to fear in God. Amen!
