Is Eternity Settled?

After some days Felixs came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and listened to him on the subject of faith in Christ Jesus. Now as he spoke about righteousness, self-control, and the judgement to come, Felix became afraid and replied, "Leave for now, but when I find the time I'll call for you." At the same time he was hoping that money would be given him by Paul. For this reason he sent for him quite often and conversed with him.
After two years had passed, Felix received a successor, Porcius Festus, and because he wished to do a favour for the Jews, Felix left Paul in prison. Acts 24:24-27

What makes us afraid of the gospel? Sin. Felix had taken his wife from another man. This is an obvious sin but the fact that he was seeking money from Paul tells us of other sins, the fact that he left Paul in prison as a favour to the Jews tells us this man had many flaws. But Jesus does not call the righteous to repent, but the unrighteousness, so we are all allowed in.

The sad thing here is we do not see Felix come to repentance and acknowledge Jesus as saviour and Lord. What is a future without Christ? Last night I caught the end of the designer home programme on the ABC. The couple being followed spent $1.8m on a house on an island. The husband had almost died before they started and so he decided to build his dream and hang the cost, which he is still paying for. A greater cost awaits him if he has not made a provision for his eternity.

Conversely, yesterday I was sent a photo of children left orphaned by the earthquakes in Nepal. I am going to be a part of the answer for these children but even such acts, if not done with eternity settled with be futile. Self- righteousness is just as much a sin to mankind. To be rich and build big houses is not a sin. Eternity must be settled by us all. Jesus must be the door through which we walk, in all that we do. Amen!
