The Inheritance
As they were yelling and flinging aside their robes and throwing dust into the air, the commander ordered Paul to be brought into the barracks, directing that he be examined by the scourge, so he could discover the reason they were shouting against him like this. As they stretched him out for the lash, Paul said to the centurion standing by, "Is it legal for you to scourge a man who is a Roman citizen and is uncondemned?" Acts 22:23-25
The Jews were demonstrative in their judgement of Paul, a little hysterical but thoroughly enraged at him for going to the Gentiles. The centurion was going to scourge him, it is said examining him by the lash. Perhaps under the lash truth not yet know would come out. Fortunately for Paul one of his forebears had earned the precious Roman citizenship. As the centurion went on to tell him, he spent a lot of money to buy his but here was a man, a Jew at that, who had been born a Roman citizen.
How good is God? He had Paul's forebears be endowed with the precious citizenship that would do him well in many instances. Protecting from being treated as a common criminal, removed him from the hands of the Jews and allowed him a privilege that such a citizenship afforded him.
Can you see how God goes to work in our past, in the lives of those who go before us, preparing for the day when will we need a gift that only He knew we needed?
I am grateful for all He put in place for me, I am truely blessed. Amen! In Him I have an inheritance in the Saints.
