Is Law Sin?
What should we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin if. We're not for the law. For example, I would not know what it. To covet if the law had not said, 'Do not covet.' And sin seizing an opportunity throu the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind. For apart from the law sin is dead.
Once I was alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. The commandment that was meant for life resulted in death for me. For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me. So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy just and good. Romans 7:7-12
Have you ever heard: "I didn't know that was wrong!" In Australia we have a thing called 'insider trading,' which some believe is not wrong. They receive a tip from someone on the inside of an investment house who knows things and leaks them to someone who should not know things and therefore make a huge profit, an illegitimate profit. Now, there would be many who do not know what it is or how it works and think they have stumbled onto a winning number. However, if the government find out, they could go to jail, along with the person who gave them the tip.
In ignorance we can do things that are wrong but when we discover they are wrong we are then faced with the decision: will I risk being caught or walk away? If the decision is to risk being caught we walk into sin wilfully. The law is there to protect others and in so doing causes us to face the temptation to sin.
If I endeavour to live my life by the law, I will fail, because I am not powerful to live sin free in my own strength. However, if I run to Christ and stay hidden in Him He protects and guides me.
Today I was sorely tempted to pay someone back, I sensed a spirit shouting "unfair, you are within your rights!" Liar! I went to the cross and repented and asked for help to walk in holiness because I know that is what my God would want. Amen!
