Who Are You Yoking Yourself to?
What then? Should we sin because we are not under law but grace? Absolutely not! Don't you know that if you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey- either sin leading to death or of obedience leading to righteousness? But thank God that, although you used to be slaves to sin, you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching you were transferred to, and having been liberated from sin, you became slaves to righteousness. Romans 15-18
We do give ourselves to things. Why do we marry? We see in someone else something we want, for a woman it may be security, comfort, companionship, for a man he is attracted to the physical and sees it fulfilling his sexual appetite. Yet, even on this level we can be so wrong because of what we allow to direct our choices. If we analyse the motives they can be flawed. Whilst on one level there is nothing wrong with wanting companionship, if the one you yoke yourself to has a spirit of fear in control you are yoking yourself to that, strange bedfellows.
I think if we could see the spirit that stands alongside the appetite presented to us, the lust, the desire we would turn away. There is so much presented to us that will destroy our faith and draw us away from the best Christ has for us.
Better to keep our hearts in a safe place and deal wisely with each situation as it arises. Why do I need a drink of alcohol, the idea that it will help we relax, unwind sounds good but is there a better way? That beautiful woman looks like a good solution to your lonliness, dig deeper, keep you heart and wait and allow truth to shine. Does she have a solid heart for God? Is she fraught with a hidden fractured soul that she has not yielded to the Lord? When you are broken yourself you are not in a good place to make wise decisions and therefore will make broken decisions, again setting yourself up for disaster.
Christ paid the price that I would be made free. I am blessed! Blessed! Blessed! My freedom is precious to me, as is my saviour. I cannot yield my freedom to another, no matter how good a sell they give. Stay free! Amen!
