Each Has a Place
What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, and each has a role the Lord has given. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.
Now the one planting and the one watering are one in purpose, and each will receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are God's coworkers.
You are God's field, God's building. According to God's grace given to me, I have laid a foundation as a skilled master builder, and another builds on it. But each one must be careful how he builds on it. For no one can lay any other foundation than what has been laid down. That foundation is Jesus Christ.
If anyone builds on that foundation with gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or straw, each one's work will become obvious, for the day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire; the fire will test the quality of each one's work. If anyone's work that he has built survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned up, it will be lost, but he will be saved; yet it will be an escape through fire. 1Cor 3:5-15
There have been times when I have despaired my lack of fruit. I seem to be a sower but others get to reap. Yet Paul tells me that is ok, both are important. If Paul was a sower, a foundational builder, then it is ok for me.
I am in the throes of selling my business. I have moved out of my office and on one level it seemed I had failed to build what I had a vision to build. I was starting to regret all the sacrifice, until today. The young man I had took on and persevered with through many trials, offered to buy my business. Until today, I did not think him capable. However, he is not me and must now build on the foundation I have laid, his own way. I have built a businessman who is now confident to move into his own vision. Someone says: leading is not creating followers but leaders. I have done this. Wow!
Before God all are equal. it is us that get egotistical. I am grateful to be released from the burden and willing to allow someone else step in and take this ship to its destiny. I am already seeing my next step. It has to do with missions. I am excited to move into the next phase. Amen!
Paul constantly moved forward with Godly vision. I must also and not resent the path or the trails, it is all worth it. Amen!
