Evidence that Demands a Verdict

For I passed on to you as most important what I also received:
That Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures,
That He was buried,
That He was raised on the third day according to the scriptures,
and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve.
Then He appeared to over 500 brothers at one time;
Most of them are still alive, but some have fallen asleep.
Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
Last of all, as to one abnormally born, He also appeared to me. 1Cor 15:3-8

It is easy enough for a few persons to lie or create a story but for 527 sightings of Jesus, in several different lots and times, this would be much ore difficult. Paul is giving evidence validating Jesus' authenticity.

Whilst ironing tonight I watched a show that the Brits are quite fond of. They seem to produced them in volumes. This one was a history of Rome and its religions and those that threatened them. The presenter was obviously not a Christian and admitted she had trouble with Pauls writings, especially since he said: 'the man is head of the woman.' This woman is married and her spouse appeared for a short stint to present his speciality. The woman seems quite accepting of his prowess and maleness, yet made it clear he was not her head. Big deal!

Paul was defending his apostleship in this epistle and a valid part of it was the fact that Jesus had appeared to him after His resurrection, and obviously after Paul's conversion. The presenter of the documentary on Rome said that Paul was a travelling salesman. Well I suppose you could say he was, he travelled the Roman empire declaring the gospel.

The presenter also pointed out that there were many so called Christians who hedged their bets by being buried in tombs with both Christian markings as well as pagan ones. This is quite possible considering the trouble Paul is having with the Corinthians. They were, it seems, all for mixing up their beliefs with paganism.

We Christians are living in a world dominated by self and idolatry. There are sure to be those who also hedge their bets. I wonder what sort of reception they will have when they stand before Christ and know He is Lord of all and they had polluted they stream with brackish water?
