Idols

About eating food that is offered to idols, then, we know that "an idol is nothing in the world," and that "there is no God but one." For even if there were so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth- as there are many "gods" and many "lords"- yet for us there is one God, the Father. All things are from Him, and we exist for Him. And there is one Lord Jesus Christ. All things are through Him, and we exist through Him. 1Cor 8:4-6

We are not yet discussing food offered to idols and again we find a gem. "An idol is nothing in the world!" I am going to a land where idolatry is stapled to the character of the nation. Yet wicked spirits rule the lives of those who worship idols. Why would they not want to be free?

In our western world where we have the benefit of worshipping the true and living God, we see many turn from such worship to idols made with their own hands, ease and indulgence of one self. Yet, where things go wrong, as they do, they turn on the true and living God and state: "What did He ever do for me!" They definitely have the roles reversed. There is one God and One Father. All things are from Him and we exist for Him. He does not exist for us.

I have just read three books written by missionaries to Nepal and to see how the people are ruled by demons is frightening. Yet their sacrifices do not bring healing and deliverance. There is only One power that heals and delivers. Amen! Praise the name of Jesus!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
