Immorality and Church
It is widely reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and the kind of sexual immorality that is not even tolerated among the Gentiles- a man is living with his father's wife. And you are inflated with pride, instead of filled with grief so that he who has committed this act might be removed from your congregation. For though I am absent in body but present in Spirit, I have already decided about the one who has done this thing as though I am present. When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus with my spirit and with the power of the Lord Jesus, turn that one over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord.
Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast permeates the whole batch of dough? Clean out the old yeast so that you may be a new batch. You are indeed unleavened, for Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. therefore, let us observe the feast, not with old yeast or with the yeast of malice and evil but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 1Cor 5:1-8
The first thing the Corinthians did wrong was think too highly of themselves, then in their pride, they allow another sin, immorality in. When we become inflated with ourselves, we begin to think we are God and start to make decisions about morality in our flesh. We begin to condone what we should condemn in the church.
I am watching immorality creep into the church, homosexuality, adultery, living together before marriage, child pornography. How can we come to church and expect that this is ok? Why do we come to church when we think this is ok? Why are we frightened to speak out against such behaviour? Why are we silenced by political correctness and find ourselves spineless, unable to say: "No! I wont support your behaviour!"
Paul was writing to deal with both sins, he sent Timothy to be the man on the scene.
As we fail to speak against immorality, like yeast, it permeates the lives of others so that before we know it we have a totally immoral church and how can an immoral church see God's power and glory?
Clean it up guys! We are supposed to provide salt and light to this world. If we repent and turn to God, He will wash our nations.
