Hardship

15 September
For Christ also suffered for sins once for all,  the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring you to God, after being put to death in the fleshly realm but made alive in the spiritual realm.
1 Peter 3:18

I am being severely challenged at present. I am on a trek in the Himalayan Alps and with a group of silly young men who have more energy than sense. My travelling companion is here for them and I am struggling physically and emotionally.

After a gruelling day yesterday we made it to camp and were made aware that hot springs were nearby. Badly needing baths and relaxation we all agreed to go only to find we had another hour of travel down slippery steps in the dark. I was left to fend for myself until our guide came to my rescue. In hindsight, I would not have gone had I have known the state of the passage there and back.

I was sorely cross and to make matters worse there were leeches everywhere. You might say my attitude was challenged. I am awake at  2am needing a clean heart and faith to continue. I am reminded of a road bike challenge I undertook in 2011 with my sister, I had a similar experience. Just because we struggle we are not guaranteed loving consideration from others.

I am reminded of Christ's struggle. I am not alone as He is with me. Amen!

For it is better to suffer for doing good if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.
1 Peter 3:17 HCSB

Doing good entails a good attitude, a holy attitude, a set-apart attitude.

Today was another gruelling climbing day. I did well until lunchtime and then it was a struggle. We had already trekked up cliffs, up and up we went. Lunch was good; the usual dal Bharat. There is not much variety in this meal. The afternoon entailed more climbing. In fact, the whole day, except for the lunch break involved either sharp ascents or descents. The views were spectacular.

Hardship stretches you. In fact, it can put you out of shape. Unless, of course, the Lord is in charge.
