A Holy Calling


He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.
2 Timothy 1:9 HCSB

'Works usually signifies self-effort. Prior to his conversion Paul was a zealous Pharisee who grew up under Gammiel and who believed Judaism was the only way. Then, he met the Saviour. He was forever changed. I was a zealous Catholic. I loved the 'bells and smells'.
But He had another plan. He made me so hungry for a relationship with Him I was willing to leave Catholicism amd follow Him where He led me.

The Holy calling God had prepared for Paul was to take the gospel to the foreign lands. Paul went willingly and gave his life for the gospel.

I hear many stories of lives changed by the gospel. I recently read a book of a young girl forsaking Islam for a relationship with Christ. Eric Liddell forsook a running career to go to China as a missionary. There are many such stories. I have a girlfriend who gave up a life in Australia to go to Japan to preach the gospel.

Now, it is our turn. What would He have us do? We have our ideas, but what does He say? Today we must ponder this. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
