Loving Wisdom


The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Proverbs 1:7 HCSB

Those who choose God as their portion and get to know Him, fear or respect Him if they keep His word. The word of God tells us how to behave. If we listen and harness our emotions and will to obey, we are His. Those who choose such a path choose wisdom. Those who submit to God's hand and yield to His will begin to know how to live.

However, those who choose to walk according to what 'feels good' to them are in danger. Self, not God, is the ruling authority. How many times do you hear, "it felt good, so I did it!" This is the wide path to destruction and self-deception.

Joy comes from walking with and abiding in the Lord. Abiding in the vine, being grafted into a life blood not our own, seems strange at first but so peaceful and satisfying. The vine supplies nourishment, fellowship and protection. The Gardner, the Father, cares for us. He removes the rubbish, the injured parts he heals, He provides structure, safety and we can flourish in that garden, attached to that vine.

I choose to stay connected when pressure comes and not run away to manage on my own. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
