Words
A fool does not delight in understanding, but only wants to show off his opinions.
The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters, a flowing river, a fountain of wisdom.
A fool’s lips lead to strife, and his mouth provokes a beating. A fool’s mouth is his devastation, and his lips are a trap for his life.
A gossip’s words are like choice food that goes down to one’s innermost being.
The one who gives an answer before he listens — this is foolishness and disgrace for him.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.
An offended brother is harder to reach than a fortified city, and quarrels are like the bars of a fortress.
From the fruit of his mouth a man’s stomach is satisfied; he is filled with the product of his lips.
Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:2, 4-4, 6-8, 13, 17-17, 19-21 HCSB
Most of us speak. Most of us fail to think before we speak, we just open our mouths and let our tongues loose. As we can see from the scriptures above, the foolish speak without thinking.
My, or should I say, our, challenge is to allow the Holy Spirit to rule. What is He saying? That is what is important.
Yesterday I went to a village: Phalanx Sangu, where we had done voluntary work last September. I was checking on our water project. The villagers were unhappy with the water supply. I took a Christian water project developer who is also Nepali. They chatted away in Nepali most of the time, I prayed.
When we arrived at the village and went to inspect the piping, we found it cut. We were told a log did it. I didn't believe this as I could see the villagers wanted their crops watered and the pipe was spewing forth water into a field.
We had, for the longest time struggled to work out what the water was for. Now we know- primarily irrigation. However the drinking water is running low, due to lack of rain, and will need supplementing.
Our challenge is: do we put in a stronger pump? This could cost over $30,000; make them manage or find an alternative? My initial reaction was- "No way!" However I will receive a report from the project manager and pray.
I met the pastors of the area and gave honour to them. The sense of God's presence in the village is patent. I want to work with that. Amen! What is God doing?
