The Ultimate Purpose
they took palm branches and went out to meet Him. They kept shouting: “ Hosanna! He who comes in the name of the Lord is the blessed One — the King of Israel! ”
John 12:13 HCSB
This same crowd could have been the same one who shouted "Crucify Him!" Crowds are fickle and not to be trusted on the whole. What makes a man love you one day and stab you in the back another day? Selfish greed! These people wanted a king to deliver them from Roman occupatuon. Whilst the adoration was deserved, scripture tells us that Jesus knew men's hearts and therefore did not give Himself wholly to them.
Our role is the know Him, the crucified Him, the raised from the dead Him and stay faithful. Being faithful is tested when we have disappointment. These people would be disappointed. Jesus did not take the power and glory they expected. Judas was disappointed for the same reason and it caused him to betray Jesus.
Disappointment causes fraud and betrayal in our relationships. When others expect us to be and do certain things and we fail to deliver, their hearts leave us and they think it is ok to betray us and use us for their own ends.
Yet Jesus took the betrayal as it led Him to His ultimate purpose- to save us from our sins. Our roles are greater than being well thought of. Amen!
