Temptation

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humanity. God is faithful, and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape so that you are able to bear it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 HCSB

I have heard it said: " I was tempted to tell him where to go!" This is common. Another is: " I was tempted to speak my mind!" In relationships we don't have to speak our mind, always, especially if it is in a hurtful way. I have a friend who annoys my chronically at times. My solution is to pray until my tongue is civil and then see what needs to be said, often nothing.

Our lusts tempt us. If we have confessed ourselves into a hole with chocolate, we will struggle with it. If we have said:" I can't live without coffee!" We can't! I remember a time when cheescake had me. Yet I found a way of escape. I thought icecream had me, but a substitute works fine. Fasting has a way of setting us free as well.

There are many things to tempt us. It was sad to see the American doctor jailed forever because of sexual abuse of gymnasts. This man was addicted to porn. Porn is addictive. Yet there is a way of escape if you want it. Sex is a strong motivation and the cause of many sins. Yet our God provides a way of escape, if we ask Him.

We start breaking free with our confession. Instead of: " I am never going to be able to give that up or be free," how about: " God is able to make a way!"

With food I created reasons I could not eat things, such as: "I don't eat pavlova as it has too much sugar and sugar gives me headaches." I don't eat pavlova.

With compulsive speanding: " I really don't like crowds and shopping." Don't go shopping.

For the hidden things, like sexual sin, " God is my way of escape." When temptation comes run to Him.

He is our source of strength! Amen!
