How Do I treat Those Who Oppose Me?
For if you love those who love you, what reward will you have? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?
Matthew 5:46
I am reminded of the Father of the prodigal son. The father gave His son his inheritance, even though he knew it would be squandered. The interesting thing is: he didn't go looking for his son but waited and watched for his return. He allowed his son to go through a rough time, so that he would come to his senses, and He did. This would have required strength, faith and prayer.
The father was willing to forgive his repentant son. Anyone who is truly repentant should be welcomed home. The second son did not appreciate the father's behaviour but he was jealous and not at all forgiving or loving.
Always, we are faced with a decision on how to treat the one who returns. May it be filled with grace. Amen!
