From Him and to Him Are all Things
From Him the whole body, fitted and knit together by every supporting ligament, promotes the growth of the body for building up itself in love by the proper working of each individual part.
Ephesians 4:16 HCSB
As I have studied anatomy in the past I know the spine holds the body upright (unless it is damaged). To the spine ligaments, tendons and muscles are attached. The spine supports the pelvis and ribcage to which muscles are also attached. The bones of the skeleton are important but without the muscles, tendons and ligaments it will fall over. Now there is more muscle, then there is fat to keep the body warm and skin over all to hold it together. We have a frame but the intestines, heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, brain are required for the body to function. Importantly blood vessels need to keep the whole structure alive with blood, also without the nervous system the brain could not influence the functioning of the body. Finally we have the lymphatic system that assists us with healing and immunity.
As you can see there are many parts, all important. When one part is disabled through sickness or injury other parts step up to help out. However they were never meant to do that parts work indefinitely or the body suffers as the overworked parts begin to limp and then they also fail.
Each of us in the body of Christ has a part to play as many other parts rely on us. We are integral to the completeness of the body, it needs to be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
Our head, Christ, is the influencer of all. He has given us His Holy Spirit to comfort and guide us. While the other members of the body give us structure they are not our lifesource or our comforter. Whilst friends are good, they are not our God. While family is good, they are not God. He must be God and God alone. Amen!
