I will put My Hope in Him
Because of the Lord ’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness! I say: The Lord is my portion, therefore I will put my hope in Him.
Lamentations 3:22-24 HCSB
This book of poetry was written by Jeremiah after Babylon came and destroyed the city and the temple. Jeremiah had repeatedly warned his king and the people that there blatant sin would bring judgement but they ignored him. God in His mercy told Jeremiah, before this event to go an buy a piece of land, speaking hope into his heart of a good future.
Jeremiah is a melancholic poet and prophet who loves his God and his people. In this book he is pouring out his grief and in the verses above returns to hope in the Lord.
Through our darkest times we can hope in the Lord. Night has an end and daytime is coming. We need to keep out eyes on Jesus as He is our reward and He will lead us through the valley. Self-pity has no place in faith. Crying may last for a night but hope comes in the morning.
Look for the Lord! Seek Him as your good portion. Amen!
