For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.
2 Timothy 1:7 HCSB
IN previous verses Paul is reminding Timothy of who He is and what He has. Timothy has a rich heritage. His grandmother and mother were believers and they taught Timothy about the Lord. Timothy is now a fond disciple of Paul the apostle and leader of the church in Ephesus. Timothy is young and we can suppose, because of this scripture, needing encouragement in His faith.
As an older women I watch the young rising up in faith at my church and I rejoice. What a good heritage. I pray I lay a good heritage for my children and grandchildren also.
No matter whether we come to faith alone in our families or not we still need encouragement. I had thought, for many years, that I was the first in my family. Only recently I found my great grandmother was a wonderful woman of faith. Her prayers for her children and their children have born fruit in me. I am grateful for her faith and prayers.
I admire Paul's love for Timothy and the way he teaches him and encourages him. If you have such a pastor learn from them.
Fear is something we all face but can, in Christ, all defeat. Amen!
