Listening to Live
Listen, my son. Accept my words, and you will live many years. I am teaching you the way of wisdom; I am guiding you on straight paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered; when you run, you will not stumble. Hold on to instruction; don’t let go. Guard it, for it is your life.
Proverbs 4:10-13 HCSB
Young men and women can fall for believing they know best and therefore rejecting instruction from older people. This is unwise as older people may not look like they have the goods but they do.
Learning to discern wisdom when it is spoken is important and conversely learning to absorb wisdom and allowing it to direct you is crucial.
Training you ears and eyes to hear and see truth couched in an older person is so important. You don't have to like the person or want their lifestyle but if they know what you need to know to navigate the path you are on, listen!
David was Solomons teacher. He was a good teacher and fortunately Solomon listened. However there was one area David could not teach Solomon, women. David had a bad track record and it is believed he died from Syphilis. Solomon built upon this mistake, to his detriment.
Solomon was wise enough to listen to all he was taught and was the wisest king who ever lived. Listen to good instruction and live! Amen!
