I’m sure that won’t happen to you, friends. I have better things in mind for you—salvation things! God doesn’t miss anything. He knows perfectly well all the love you’ve shown him by helping needy Christians, and that you keep at it. And now I want each of you to extend that same intensity toward a full-bodied hope, and keep at it till the finish. Don’t drag your feet. Be like those who stay the course with committed faith and then get everything promised to them.

The Message bible totally unfolds meaning around the above scripture. We can, at times, read a scripture and hide behind a lack of the full understanding and therefore exempt ourselves from the full meaning. Yet this version gives us nowhere to hide.

The opening line: " I am sure this won't happen to you," refers to the previous verse talking about judgement for unbelief. (Just so you know- no wriggle room here).

God does, indeed, know our works. Helping needy Christians is just that, people who believe, brothers and sisters in Christ. The gifts I have received in times of need have been a testimony to unbelievers as they see how the church family looks after it's own. This ought to be so.

We cannot wish people to be fed and warm and not do something about it. Intention is not enough. Action is required! Do it!
