My dearly loved brothers, understand this: Everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for man’s anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness.
James 1:19-20 HCSB
In hearing there is more to be heard: what is God saying? What truth saying? What is righteousness saying? What is the heart of man saying. If we see our hearing platform as a room, a theater as a stadium there is a lot of room for sound to come from. If we limit our hearing to spoken word directly in front of us we can miss God in the mix. If we listen with our spirit the platform is bigger.
If we listen with our spirits we catch everything and then can respond from our spirits. How would God have us respond? What would He have us say? What do others need us to say? Where is truth, compassion and righteousness?
What accomplishes the righteousness of God? What would He do? If we spend more time listening as less speaking we will probably say more what needs to be said and therefore be more effective. Amen!
