Service amd Serving

You call Me Teacher and Lord. This is well said, for I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done for you. “I assure you: A slave is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them. John 13:13‭-‬17 HCSB

If we only serve one another when we hear a good message or have an emotional buzz and want to be seen, then is that really what Jesus is talking about? No! The service He talks about happened behind closed doors when the crowd was absent. Jesus did the menial tasks assigned to servants, washing feet.

What does service look like? Answering a phone call and being willing to assist; not being annoyed when replaced or moved in a waiting line, being at a party or dinner and asking if you can help, taking in a neighbour's bin for them, making a cup of tea for someone also waiting in line, making room for the elderly...

Service does not have to be a one off event where you also wash feet. That might give you gooey feelings but it is not service. Find out what it looks like for you today.
