Struggling With Depression

As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for You, God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while all day long people say to me, “Where is your God? ”
Psalms 42:1‭-‬3 HCSB

For someone who trusts in God through the storms of life, I am sure many would say: "why do you bother? Where is God and why does He allow you to suffer?" This psalm was written by one of the sons of Korah, called to minister before the Lord in music. As we study scripture we see that life does not run smoothly and many are the afflictions of the righteous but they remain steadfast through it all.

In Numbers 27:11 we see that the tribe of Korah rebelled and were judged by God, the earth opening up and swallowed them. So to have some serve the Lord through music means these few escaped judgement and have a lot to remember and be thankful for.

This particular psalm is good for those experiencing depression. Having been there after a divorce I had to do what the psalm said:

Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God. Psalms 42:5 HCSB

Our God is the answer for complete restoration. Amen!
