“Your heart must not be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me. John 14:1 HCSB
What we believe can give us peace or trouble us. If all the machinations of our mind continually creates a picture of chaos then fear will dominate. However if our eyes are fixed on Jesus we have peace in the storm.
The three young men: Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego chose to trust the Lord in the furnace and came out unburnt.
Hebrews 12:2 encourages us to keep our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame.
In John 14 Jesus was encouraging the disciples to not fear as He went to the cross. Their whole world were about to fall apart as they watched their Lord brutally beaten and crucified. To believe that He could rise after such treatment would have been hard, unless they caught the power behind the words: 'Believe in God, believe also in Me.'
Learning to believe was a part of their last three years with Jesus. Now it would be put to the test.
For those who find faith in the furnace there is life on the return journey. Amen!
