Who Are Disciples?
Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/jhn.8.31-32.NLT
The deciding factor for all who claim to know Christ is this: you do what I say. It is not how much we know the scriptures or how fervent we are in religious rituals, it is simply this.
What then did Jesus say? He said many things but He taught to love God the Father with all our hearts, souls and minds and to love others as ourselves. Out of these two flows an ability to trust, obey and share this truth with others.
Love must be the foundation. Not a soppy kind of love that consumes us today and leaves us when it moves on to another.
Our human nature tends to identify with ideology. Ideology is not sufficient, neither is ritual. The relationship is all that matters.
