Being Humble

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Philippians 2:3‭-‬5 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/php.2.3-5.NLT

If I want to know what 'selfless' looks like, I look at Jesus. He displayed how to be human and selfless. He was not a doormat, yet He was not all about Him. In fact, Jesus said He was here to do His Father's will.

The gospels show us what Jesus was like. He spent time with the Father seeking His will and then He went about doing it. The ultimate sacrifice came in His obedience in dying on the cross. He gave up His deity, His right as the Son of God. He did not deserve to die on the cross, we did, yet He took our place.

Each of us is commanded to pick up our cross and to follow Him. For each of us, this is different. It is dying to self, laying down all preconceived rights and being willing to face the scorn for Him.

Today is Sunday. Let us honour Him by dying to self today. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
