Greatest Commands
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/mat.22.37-39.NLT
Jesus was asked what the greatest command was and He gave them the First and then another which summed up all others; loving others as we love ourself.
When do we love like this? Always: when things are good and when things are bad, when men speak well of us and when they don't. We usually handle the praise but not the criticism.
Yet what causes others to criticise? Offence, bitterness, anger, resentment, unforgiveness are all motivations which stem from self. How can I love and forgive this person?
The answer lies in the first commandment: loving God above all else. Jesus loved the Father and obeyed Him in death on a cross. I am grateful He did. I live in a freedom He won for me.
He allowed sinful men to crucify Him so that a grace could flow from His body and ser me free.
What does God want to flow out of me, especially when I am broken? How will my brokenness change the world?
