So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

When we are confident of something we know we can do the task required of us in that particular field.
However, Paul is here talking about a confident trust in another, an invisible other. How do we gain confidence in an unseen other? By testing. Testing is what we experience in life so that we can see we have the confidence.
If we gain a confidence then we should not give it away easily. Confidence is hard won. Therefore, it should not be discarded lightly. Amen
