“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.
Matthew 6:19 NLT

Although we read this scripture what do we do? We store things. I am watching 100s of people lose their houses to fire in our current bushfire emergency in Australia. To date, the number of homes lost stands at around 500. Homes are where we store things. Yet many are saying: "everyone is safe, that is all that matters."
Fire tests the importance we place on things. Three people lost their lives fighting the fires or hiding from the fires. Some we saw on television professing they would stay and fight the fire. Why?
Mum and I have an evacuation plan on the fridge. It does not contain much in the way of possessions. Mum, Oscar(the dog) and me, mums medications and a few essentials. Yet lives would do.
Last night I awoke at 1.30 am to hear my mother calling me. She had fallen on the floor. She had been calling out for 30 minutes and even tried calling my mobile and I slept on. My greatest concern is that mum is able to leave in an emergency. As it was we had to call an ambulance to lift her from the floor. In a fire, this would not happen. Can you see the danger?
You can see my treasure has shrunk to another's life. Danger and accidents do this for you. The true treasure in this life is people. Don't waste the treasure.
My relationship with the Lord is my highest treasure and I have to trust Him with the rest. Amen!
