what is in a name?

God ’s name is a place of protection— good people can run there and be safe.
Proverbs 18:10 MSG

When I think of the names I have known in my life, some were unknown enteties, some well-known, and some were pejorative, they were definitely to be avoided.

A good name is worth more than treasure, in fact it is one of the greatest treasures. The Lord treasures His name and holds it above all but His word.

What does this tells us about Him? It tells us that He works hard to maintain the value He places in His name. He wants to be that safe place that all may know Him as safe.

When watching movies such as The Godfather, I wonder why people would be loyal to a brutal leader. When I consider men such as Hitler I wonder how ordinary people hailed such a man. Yet they did. I am sure they did not see these men as safe places.

My God is a safe place and for that I love Him all the more. Thank You Lord! Amen

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
