comforting others
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT
It is only as we experience God's confort as we endure trials, are we able to comfort others. I remember a difficult time as a young mum and I had no family or friends around in a new city. We went to church and I happened to tell another mum I was struggling. Instead of comfort she gave counsel and I told her: I don't want your counsel I want your friendship. That particular woman was living in a house with her mother and father-in law below. They were constantly on call to help her. She had lived in the same area for many years and had many friends. She could not fathom or identify with my plight.
Experiencing trials, illness and difficulty causes us to be sympatheric to others who also suffer. We can give love snd compassion much easier because of our experience.
Not wanting to suffer causes us to be of no use, or little use, to others. We all will experience difficulty of some sort, we need to find God as our comfort in these times so that when we are through we can help others. Amen!
