the light

The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. John 1:4‭-‬5 NLT

I remember the first time I watched a Star Wars movie, the introductory text scrolled up into the sky. In me it created anticipatory excitement. These verses do the same, but for a greater reason.

In the very start of the introduction of John's gospel he introduces Jesus as being 'The Word'.  We know written words, spoken words, but what manner of word is a Godlike person? This is a mystery, a true mystery, not a man-made story. I want to know more!

John introduces Jesus as none of the other gospel writers do. John had a close relationship with Jesus, it was as if he could see more than the others. He saw the heart and he reports more words not spoken elsewhere. This gospel would be my favourite.

Jesus is indeed the light. Darkness thought it had overcome Him, but He went to its throne room and stripped it of all authority, preached to the captives there and took those who believed with Him to heaven. Then He returned to earth to display His glory, annoint His team and then depart for His eternal reward.

Jesus is my hero. He is betrer than any earthly hero. His power was His word. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
