the priestly blessing

‘May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.’ Numbers 6:24‭-‬26 NLT

This blessing was given by God to Moses for Aaron to use over the people. Aaron, Moses' brother was relegated the postion of high priest, wirh his sons serving as ordinary priests, under him. This blessing has been around for thousands of years, and is still used in churches.

Words we say carry importance: with our mouths we bless, with our mouths we curse. We need to be careful which we do. The apostle James admonished in James 3:10-12:
And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water? Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring.

If we find ourselves blessing God and cursing people, we have a problem. Repentance is the answer. Amen!
